Lyons is currently enrolled in the Guil-Rand Fire Department’s recruit class training to be a firefighter. Fire Chief Scott Spencer said they wanted to set up the relief fund to help the family pay her medical bills and to help provide for her children.
“We want to help her out,” Spencer told the NEWS. “We’re pulling for a full recovery, but she’s going to have a lot of medical bills. She just started our recruit class and they’re very concerned for her. I’m sure the community will help out because we have a great community, and they always step up.”
The accident occurred when James Chriscoe, head of maintenance for Randolph County, who was driving a county-owned truck, crossed the center line and hit Lyons’ Mustang head-on. According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, charges are pending against Chriscoe.
Lyons was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where she was still listed in critical condition as of Friday. Her two children, ages 4 and 1, were taken to High Point Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and now reside with family members.
Chriscoe was taken to Randolph Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
