The Ministers Conference of High Point and Vicinity and the United Way of Greater High Point seek food donations for local nonprofit food pantries during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. prayer and scholarship breakfast and evening memorial service, Monday, Jan. 18.
The prayer and scholarship breakfast, where scholarships are awarded, will be held at 8 a.m. at Williams Memorial CME Church, 3400 Triangle Lake Road in High Point.
The memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., also at Williams Memorial. The speaker will be Dr. John W. Kinney, dean of the Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University.
Tickets are $10 per person for the breakfast and are available at the United Way of Greater High Point. There is no cost to attend to the memorial service, however, attendees are asked to bring food and toiletries for food pantries.
“In the spirit of Dr. King’s commitment to community service and unity, we are encouraging individuals to bring a canned food item or toiletry item to the prayer and scholarship breakfast and to the evening memorial service,” said Bobby Smith, president of the United Way of Greater High Point.
“All items will be donated to local nonprofit food cupboards.”
Community Outreach of Archdale-Trinity is among the recipients of the food drive.
Attendance at the events is not necessary to donate. Food and toiletries can also be dropped off anytime at the United Way of Greater High Point’s office at 201 Church Ave. in High Point.
