The junior varsity and varsity football teams of Trinity High School gathered one last time as a family to celebrate their 2009 season.

The night of celebration, held Wednesday, Dec. 16, began with a highlights film of the season’s best plays and ended with a slide-show tribute to the seniors.

Archdale United Methodist Church provided the facilities as players, coaches, family and friends feasted on barbecue, hush puppies, macaroni and cheese, banana pudding and peach cobbler, all catered by BBQ Joes.

“I have been blessed with this group of kids, particularly the seniors, and this coaching staff,” said Head Coach Alex Mebane. “This was a great staff. They all had other jobs but continued to give hours to this program. This is the best staff I’ve ever been a part of.”

Thanks also were given to the managers, ball boys and parents for their contributions to the Bulldogs’ successful season.

Mebane had nothing but positive things to say about both the junior varsity and varsity players.

“In my 27 years of coaching, this is the greatest team I have ever coached,” he said. “Greatest record, no. Greatest team, yes. There is a genuine love, care and concern in this group. I am so proud of everything these kids have accomplished. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made was to decide to be a part of this team this year.”
