Cathie Honeycutt

Catherine “Cathie” White Honeycutt, 55, of Trinity, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the High Point Regional Hospital Cancer Center.

Born Feb. 13, 1954, in Guilford County, she was a daughter of the late John Cameron and Etta King White. She was a 1972 graduate of Trinity High School and was employed with Serta Mattress. She was a member of Trindale Community Church where she was very active in the Royal Rangers program, the couples ministry, music and drama ministries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Cameron White Jr.

On April 12, 1974, she was married to Mike Honeycutt, who survives of the home. Also surviving are two children, Amanda Clodfelter and husband Andy of Sophia, and Jason Honeycutt and wife Michelle of Denton; and six grandchildren.

The funeral was held Friday, Oct. 30, at Trindale Community Church by the Rev. Ottis Collins. Interment followed at Floral Garden Memorial Park cemetery. Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale assisted the family.

Nina Blackwell

Nina Mitchell Blackwell, 92, previously of the Presbyterian Home in High Point, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in High Point Regional Hospital.

She was born in Iredell County on Jan. 10, 1917, to Joseph Houston and Toye Plynia Hardin Mitchell. She was a homemaker and an active member of Lakeview Free Will Baptist Church and Sunday School as long as her health permitted. On June 5, 1937, she married Posey Larry Blackwell, who died Dec. 27, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan Eilene Blackwell Duncan and her husband Michael of High Point; a son, Phillip Larry Blackwell of High Point; a granddaughter; a sister, Eunice Campbell of Archdale; and a brother, Fralley G. Mitchell of High Point.

The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 2, at Sechrest Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue by the Rev. Howard Pittman. Interment followed in Floral Garden Memorial Park cemetery.

Carl Ivan Stevens

Carl Ivan Stevens, 93, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at his residence.

He was born May 17, 1916, in Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Jemiah Stevens; three brothers Leslie, Robert and Marvin; and a sister, Caroline.

On Feb. 18, 1945, he married Edith Helen Tallent of Vale and they shared 64 years of marriage.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the Eighth Air Force on the B-17 “Flying Fortreme,” “The Voyger” and the “Lady Satan.” He holds the distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with Four Leaf Clusters from his division, the 452nd Bombing Group of the 728th Bombardment Squadron. After leaving the Air Force, he worked with the Columbus Southern Ohio Electric Co.

In 1954, he and his family moved to North Carolina where he began a career in transportation, retiring in 1980. He was a Mason and a longtime member of Jamestown United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife Edith are three sons, James and wife Carolyn of Archdale, Larry and wife Betty of Trinity, and Tim and wife Janet of Archdale; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Walter and wife Patricia of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Thursday, Oct. 29, at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 403 E. Main St., Jamestown, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Gary Royals and the Rev. Jim Watford. Entombment followed in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum. Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale assisted the family.

Jamie Beamon

Jamie Brian Beamon, 30, a resident of Lexington and former resident of Archdale, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at his residence. He was born in Thomasville and worked for a tree service company. He was preceded in death by his father, John Boyd Beamon.

Surviving are his fiancée, Heather Gurley and their unborn child of Lexington; mother and stepfather, Karen Mann Cecil and Doug of High Point; maternal grandmother, Willie Ray and husband Steve of Venice, Fla.; a brother, Scott Beamon of Archdale; and four aunts.

A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 30, at the Sechrest Funeral Chapel, 120 Trindale Road, Archdale, by the Rev. Neal Grimes.

David Sherman

David Sherman, 55, of Greensboro, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, in a cycling accident.

Born in Washington, D.C., he received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in accounting and taxation at the University of Tennessee. He had made Greensboro his home for the last 19 years. He worked at Sealy Inc. in Archdale for more than 10 years, rising to the position of vice president.

He played with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Sherman; father, Vincent E. Sherman; and his sister, Cathie Sherman Cooney.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Carole Sherman; two daughters, Rebekah Grace “Becky” Sherman of Greensboro and Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Sherman of San Francisco, Calif.; and a sister, Laurie Sherman Pearl of Knoxville, Tenn.

A celebration of life was held at New Garden Friends Meeting Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Memorials may be made to the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra or New Garden Friends Meeting. Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel assisted the family.

Robert Jones

Robert Franklin Jones, 81, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Westwood Health and Rehab.

He was born Feb. 24, 1928, in High Point, a son of James M. Jones and Ruby Dickens Jones. He served in the Navy from 1946-1950 and the Navy Reserves from 1950-1954. He was employed in the hosiery industry for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Vicki J. Flynn and a brother, George C. Jones.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Ella “Macie” Walden Jones; three daughters, Deborah Slack and husband Bobby of Sophia, Belinda Jones of High Point and Penny Gines and husband Mike of Sophia; a son, Ronnie Jones of High Point; a brother, Albert Jones of High Point; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Phil Flynn of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 2, in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel. Burial followed in Floral Garden Memorial Park cemetery.
