Bleachers were full on both sides for the “Unity in the Community” food drive and some football.
Walker said that what touched her heart most is what the fans brought with them — a desire to unite to provide for the community’s needy.
“At a crucial time when the seasons change and the weather starts to turn cold, basic needs are emphasized and our pantry always empties out,” said Walker.
For now, the COAT pantry has been restocked with food donations from two sources — the booster clubs and the He Paid Your Fees Junior Christian Rodeo, organized by Jerome and Tiffany Davis.
From THS and WHS fans, COAT received more than 2,000 cans. “COAT sends heartfelt thanks to the booster clubs and to all the merchants, students and families who participated in the ‘Unity in the Community’ food drive. It was a wonderful event and I hope that it is the start of an annual tradition.
“I am so proud of everyone for stepping up and working for the greater good, to take their time out to do this event.”
Walker also expressed her gratitude to the Davises.
“A big thank you goes to Jerome and Tiffany Davis and all of their staff for doing their food drive, at a time when they are already busy organizing the rodeo,” Walker continued.
“For many years the Davises have participated in a food drive for COAT during their youth rodeo. COAT is blessed to have this partnership, and we look forward to future years of working together. COAT has pledged to be a more active part in the rodeo and we hope to be able to be present in person to thank the people who bring food.”
