Sheriff’s deputies discover 400 gallons of apple mash

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit and Community Crime Task Force conducted a search Sept. 23 at 237 Leo Cranford Road. While there, officers located a working liquor still that contained 400 gallons of apple mash.

They also discovered 22 marijuana plants along with processed marijuana totaling 17.8 lbs (8,072 grams), drug paraphernalia and six firearms.

Estimated street value of drugs seized is approximately $28,500.

In connection to this, Mary Shoafe Maness, 54, and Rodney Landon Cagle, 37, both of 237 Leo Cranford Road, were each charged with felony possession of marijuana; manufacturing marijuana; possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; maintaining a dwelling place for a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; and manufacturing liquor without a permit.

As of Monday, the investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are expected.

Both were placed in the Randolph County Jail: Maness under a $10,000 secured bond and Cagle under a $25,000 secured bond.

TRAFFICKING

On Sept. 22, the Criminal Interdiction Team stopped a 2003 Ford Windstar Van on Robbins Circle Road.

The driver presented identification with the name of Arturo Chairez Bargas, and during a subsequent search of the vehicle deputies located approximately 1,000 grams of cocaine in a manmade trap in the driver’s side floorboard of the van.

Officers with Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Asheboro Police Department later searched his residence, 759 Tall Pine St., Asheboro, and located approximately 15.8 pounds of marijuana, 12 grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, a firearm and $2,383.

Estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $117,000.

During the course of the investigation, officers also discovered that Bargas’ name was Leonel Sosa Perdomo and that he was wanted on domestic violence and cockfighting charges.

In addition to those charges, Perdomo, 31, was also charged with three counts of trafficking in cocaine; two counts each of trafficking in marijuana, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; violation of a protective order; and failure to appear on felony charges.

He was placed in the Randolph County Jail under a $760,000 secured bond.

The RCSO also charged Nora Elvia Mondragon, 28, of the residence, with two counts of trafficking in marijuana; manufacturing marijuana; felony possession of cocaine; possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine; maintaining a dwelling place for a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was placed in the Randolph County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond.

BUILDINGS ENTERED

A resident of the 5300 block of Walker Mill Road, Sophia, reported Sept. 17 that someone entered her outbuilding and removed a computer, valued at $1,200; Homelite trimmer, $140; Stihl chainsaw, $180; and two motorcycle rims, $3,200.

A weed eater, valued at $65, was reported stolen Sept. 17 from an outbuilding in the 4100 block of Fairway View Drive, Randleman.

A resident of the 3100 block of Beckerdite Road, Sophia, reported Sept. 18 the theft of an air compressor, valued at $400, and 1994 Mitsubishi. The vehicle was recovered.

HOMES ENTERED

A resident of the 7300 block of Farmbrook Place, Thomasville, reported Sept. 22 the theft from her residence of a wedding ring set, valued at $700; Social Security card; baby ring, $25; charm, $20; and diamond necklace, $300.

A resident of the 2500 block of Old Mountain Road, Trinity, reported Sept. 21 the theft of assorted gold and diamond jewelry, valued at $3,000.

A resident of the 400 block of Rockett Road, Randleman, reported Sept. 21 the theft of a television, valued at $50; CD player, $100; and three window air conditioners, $400. Damage was set at $150.

BATTERIES STOLEN

A representative of Sawyer’s Land Development Inc. reported Sept. 21 the theft from a construction site in the 2000 block of U.S. 220 Bypass of 12 batteries, valued at $2,400, and aluminum battery box lid, $400.

AC UNITS STOLEN

An Asheboro resident reported Sept. 21 that someone stole two window air conditioners, valued at $400, from her property in the 2800 block of Hughes Drive, Sophia.

CAMPER ENTERED

A High Point resident reported Sept. 21 that someone entered his camper parked on Chipper Trail, Thomasville, and removed a 1946 Econami tractor, valued at $500; Ruger .22 caliber rifle, $50; and hunting knife, $5.

ATV STOLEN

A 2006 Polaris four-wheeler, valued at $12,000, was reported stolen Sept. 18 from a resident in the 6100 block of Unity Street, Thomasville. The four-wheeler was recovered on Sept. 21.

VEHICLE DAMAGED

A student riding a bus from Randleman Middle School threw a bottle out of the school bus window on Sept. 22. The bottle struck the driver’s side mirror, valued at $265, on a 2206 Toyota Tacoma truck.

LARCENY

A representative of Moose Tracks, 8784 U.S. Hwy. 311, Archdale, reported Sept. 22 that an employee had taken $2,295.42 from the cash register.

FRAUD

A Thomasville resident reported Sept. 22 that someone fraudulently removed money from her bank account.

METER STOLEN

A pump house meter, valued at $100, was reported stolen Sept. 18 from a property in the 5700 block of Trotter Country Road, Archdale.

PROPERTY DAMAGED

A Trinity resident reported Sept. 18 that someone damaged a window in a residence and a wall in an outbuilding in the 4200 block of Old Marlboro Road, Sophia. Damage was set at $150.

An employee of 311 Flea Market, 7190 U.S. Hwy. 311, Sophia, reported Sept. 21 that someone removed a window frame in a building in order to remove a window. Damage was set at $150.

TIRE DAMAGED

A Winston-Salem resident reported Sept. 21 that someone damaged a tire, valued at $50, on his 1985 Honda while it was parked at Wheatmore High School, 3678 Finch Farm Road, Trinity.

ATTEMPTED ARSON

An Archdale resident reported Sept. 20 that someone attempted to burn her property in the 4900 block of Lake Darr Road, Trinity. Damage was set at $100.

CARPORT ENTERED

A resident of the 3500 block of Old Glenola Road, Archdale, reported Sept. 23 the theft from his carport of two propane heaters, valued at $300, and two nail guns, $600.

LUMBER STOLEN

A representative of Roy Pierce Construction Co. reported Sept. 23 the theft of assorted lumber, valued at $800, from a construction site in the 5000 block of Meadowbrook Drive, Trinity.

PROPERTY FOUND

A Suzuki trail bicycle, valued at $100, was found Sept. 20 in the 7000 block of Davis Country Road, Randleman.

Several items were found in an abandoned outbuilding in the 4200 block of Old Marlboro Road, Sophia. The items include a Bosch drill, cable saw, toolbox containing assorted pipe fittings, hammer drill, router, several toolboxes and assorted tools and items, Sony CD player, DVD player, cell phone, cooler, jumper cables and more.

CHARGES FILED

Gina Denise Brady, 31, of 3476 Sparky Lane, Sophia, was charged Sept. 23 with failure to appear on charges alleging misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen property; failure to appear on a charge alleging violation of school attendance law; and failure to appear on a charge alleging communicating threats.

Mardy Jacobs, 40, of 6181 Unity St., Thomasville, was charged Sept. 22 with first degree trespassing and communicating threats.

Zane Ryan Jester, 20, of 2006 Kennedy Road, Thomasville, was charged Sept. 24 with injury to personal property, resisting a public officer and assault on a female.

Patty Beasley Knight, 58, of 3133 Beckerdite Road, Sophia, was charged Sept. 24 with second degree trespassing and assault and battery.

Billy Kay Lawson Jr., 35, of 6335 Twinwood Court, Trinity, was charged Sept. 18 with communicating threats.

Roger Dale Queen, 64, of 7177 Suits Road, Archdale, was charged Sept. 22 with second degree trespassing.

Terry Michael Ridley, 47, of 605 Dunbar St., Asheboro, was charged Sept. 21 with possession of stolen property and misdemeanor larceny.

Stacy Lynn Wilcox, 34, of 3571 Roy Farlow Road, Sophia, was charged Sept. 20 with communicating threats.
